The Wilson Collegiate Tennis Camp at the University of North Carolina Charlotte offers dynamic and exciting tennis training for full and half-day attendees. It spans over two weeks under the expert guidance of UNC Charlotte’s Head Men’s Coach, Kyle Bailey, and his staff.
Designed to meet the diverse requirements of all participants, regardless of their age or skill level, the camp ensures personalized attention for each camper. The training is structured in small groups, focusing on skill enhancement through various methods such as repetition exercises, ball feeding drills, and live ball play.
Every camper benefits from individualized attention and advanced coaching techniques. The program includes intensive drills and actual game/match play, all within a fun yet competitive atmosphere. This camp is ideal for aspiring young tennis players aiming to improve their game, whether for school teams, USTA team tennis, or tournaments.
The camp takes place at the Halton Wagner Tennis Complex within the UNC Charlotte campus, providing campers access to one of the nation’s top tennis facilities.

Q: Are there Skill Requirements for this camp?
Per NCAA rules, our sports camps are open to all entrants. Enrollment is limited only by age, grade level, gender, and capacity restrictions as specified by each camp.
Q: What type of campers attend this camp?
Our camps are open to all levels of tennis players. We have players from absolute beginner to high school / Tournament level.
We design our camps to teach the technical basics and love of the game to the beginning player, to introduce strategical decision making, and more advanced technique to the intermediate player, while building on their current stroke production, and to put the advanced players into pressured, strategical and competitive situations.
Q. What is the ratio of campers to staff?
Groups will be divided into small instructional groups of approximately 5-6: 1 camper to coach. Some camps/sessions offer higher or lower ratios based on the curriculum.
Q. If the camp is full, do you have a waiting list?

Q. Should I purchase camp/cancellation insurance?
We recommend all families purchase camp/cancellation insurance if they are concerned about the investment they are making in the camp. Kids do get injured, sick and family plans change from the time of registration leading up to the camp. Camp insurance allows peace of mind and has many benefits in any of these events. Head Men’s Tennis Coach
UNC – Charlotte
Coach Kyle Bailey is in his fifth season as the Head Men’s Tennis Coach of Charlotte. Coach Bailey arrived to the Queen CIty after spending three seasons as the Associate Head Coach at the University of South Carolina, where he was named the 2018 ITA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year. At South Carolina, he recruited and coached 2019 NCAA Singles Champion Paul Jubb, and led the recruiting effort that secured the #7 (2018) and #13 (2019) classes in the nation as ranked by Tennisrecruiting.net. During his tenure as Associate Head Coach, South Carolina was 58-26 overall and 21-15 in the SEC while making three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Prior to his stint at South Carolina, Bailey was the head coach at Monmouth in 2016. He led Monmouth to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. All six players in the lineup earned All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference honors in both singles and doubles. Bailey also has seven-years’ experience (2008-14) in junior development, having worked at both Centercourt Sports and the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC). Before that he spent two years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Maryland (2006-08). While at Maryland, he helped sign a top 500 ATP player. He played a role in helping Maryland produce their first ITA All-Americans since 1971, and helped Maryland improved their ITA ranking from 70 to 45 in 2007. Bailey also previously served as head coach at his alma mater, American University, for two years (2004-06) while compiling a 28-12 record and leading the Eagles to a Patriot League regular-season title and two straight appearances in the Patriot League Tournament Championship match.
In 2023, Charlotte made its first-ever appearance at ITA Kickoff Weekend and took down NCAA Tournament hopeful, Texas Tech, 4-3, in the opening weekend of the season in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Niners finished the season with a 9-14 overall season that ended in the Quarterfinal Round of the Conference USA Tournament. The 2021-22 campaign, the third season under Coach Bailey was a historic success, finishing the season with a 17-7 overall record and its highest-ever ITA National Team Ranking at No. 43. Coach Bailey led Charlotte to its first-ever Conference USA Tournament Championship appearance and its seven wins over ITA ranked teams is the most in program history. The 17 total dual match victories is second-most in program history.
Bailey was a three-year team captain at American. He is second in all-time singles wins and first in doubles wins while participating in three consecutive NCAA Tournaments. In 2003, he earned second-team All-Patriot League honors while being named Team MVP. He graduated from American University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Public Communication. He was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Anthony Davison is now in his sixth season at his alma mater. The 49ers have entered international, national, and regional discussions on a consistent basis, elevating their level of play each season as a force within the Carolina Region. He has posted a remarkable 92-34 (.730) dual-match record in his five seasons, including an unfathomable 49-4 (.925) mark when playing on home courts.
After debuting with 19 victories in his first season and the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened campaign during his second year, Davison guided the Niners to even greater heights in 2021. Charlotte capped the campaign at 21-7, tying for the second-most single-season wins in school history and the most since 1991. In 2022 he posted his third season with at least 19 wins and guided the 49ers to just the second Conference Championship Match appearance in program history and first as a member of Conference USA. For his efforts, Davison was named the Conference USA Coach of the Year, becoming the first head coach in program history to earn a Coach of the Year honor. The program soared even higher in 2023, winning 22 matches for the second-most victories in a single season in program history and a program-record ITA ranking. The 2022-23 squad also reached the NCAA Tournament, marking the first postseason appearance in program history.
Charlotte was not the first program which turned into an instant winner under Davison’s watch. He returned to his alma mater after guiding LIU Brooklyn to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, in 2017 and 2018, and claiming back-to-back league titles with the Blackbirds. He was voted the Northeast Conference Coach of the Year both seasons as the squads combined for a 30-11 dual-match record, including a 16-0 mark in the Northeast Conference. LIU Brooklyn ascended to as high as No. 56 in the ITA rankings during his tenure.
Davison’s career began in the summer of 2011 as a communications intern and camp counselor at the UCLA Tennis Camp. He then worked for nearly three years as a senior tennis professional at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy at Sportime Randalls Island, N.Y. Among the top young talent he coached were the Junior Wimbledon Champion and NCAA runner-up, Noah Rubin (Wake Forest), and the NCAA women’s national champion, Jamie Loeb (North Carolina). He then spent time as an independent coach at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, where he worked with high-performance athletes who were aspiring WTA and collegiate players. He served as a San Diego Youth Tennis employee, focusing on player participation, enjoyment and development throughout Southern California. He then worked as head tennis professional at The Club of Riverdale, TCR, in New York City where he was responsible for the development and implementation of a 34-week junior program, served as the director of match play, which included overseeing inter-club matches and competition, and promoted club membership by reaching out to existing and potential members. Finally, prior to arriving at LIU Brooklyn, Davison was in the New York metro area as a volunteer assistant women’s tennis coach at Columbia in 2015-16. With the Lions, he helped guide them to a national ranking of 32, an ECAC championship and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
As a four-year letterwinner of the Charlotte program from 2009-12, he opened his career with 18 singles wins as a freshman to place second on the squad. As a senior in 2011-12, he topped the Niners with 14 dual-match singles victories, including an unblemished 4-0 ledger in Atlantic 10 action.
Davison is a certified Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) high performance coach and a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) licensed coach. Davison recently served as the Carolina Region representative on the ITA Operating Committee, completing a three-year term from July 2020 to June 2023.

FACILITY
Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex
Opened in 2012, the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex is one of the nicest in the southeast. A breathtaking 12,477 square foot facility includes coaches offices, a conference room, a player/team lounge and the Mens and Womens team locker rooms. The facility is named in honor of Dale Halton and Fred Wagner and their generous support of the 49ers tennis program.
The Penny Brawley Womens Tennis Office Suite is named in honor of Penny Brawley, the 49ers all-time winningest coach, whose career spanned four decades. The Jim Boykin Men’s Tennis Office Suite is named for the all-time winningest men’s coach, who led Charlotte to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2007.
The complex sits at the corner of Cameron Blvd. and Phillips Road, on campus, and includes a pair of scoreboards with wireless scoring capabilities opposite the 246 stadium seats. Statues of both a men’s and women’s tennis player, donated by Carol and Irwin Belk, adorn the entrance to the facility’s breezeway which leads directly into the stadium.
